The Anatomy of a Smile

What is the meaning of a smile?
When you think about it, there’s nothing more worthwhile
It’s biology, psychology, and contagious too
When you’re smiling, someone’s smile
echos back at you.
A smile activates the happy circuits in the brain
This causes pleasure without the pain
There are pictures of
babes smiling in the womb
Perhaps preparing them for the day they bloom
A smile can brighten a dreary sky
It knows the answers to all the whys
A smile says OK, we can do it that way
It even warms hearts each and every day.
Now all smiles might not seem so good
They are cynical, deceptive, or simply misunderstood
Just make sure when you see a beguiling smile
That you mentally put it in your delete file
You can feel a smile over the phone
It reminds you that you’re not alone
It’s not unique to you or me
A smile can even reach across the sea
Now turn up the corners of your mouth
Be sure they don’t go south
My friend says it’s the best kind of facelift
With a younger look and a youthful gift
I write this poem for you to smile
After all it is very much in style
And from your smile I learn
That now I smile, as it’s my turn.

There came a time when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.
